Feedback
about Project Management
Thank you for all of the feedback for my recent newsletter about
project management. Many readers seem to be interested in this topic,
and I will try to return to it in future newsletters. Here are bytes
from several responses:
Just a note to say thanks
for your Newsletter's article on project management and the information
regarding PMBOK. I had not previously known of this source.... I've
downloaded [PMBOK] and will take a look at it as I get time. What I've
seen in skimming looks very worthwhile. David Krathwohl
... great news letter. Fortunately, I've been working on
incorporating the PMI Methodology into a Proposal Methodology for use
in my organization. ... The best thing I've learned so far is that
proposals should be treated as projects themselves, thus directly
applying project management methodologies and principles. Georges Hall
I have been taking a project management course online. Sandy
Dunhill
I am going to check the Guide. It looks like a rich and much
needed work. And the best for you and your family during the holidays.
Kit Collins
I came across a nice web site by a ... consultant consisting
of a series of newsletter articles.... The idea might work on your site
as well because all of your old newsletters address an important issue.
Steve Bett
Thanks for the nudge,
Steve. You've given me the push I needed. This weekend I've updated my
web site with this year's newsletters. Just go to the Articles section
of my web site at http://www.p2c2group.com and you will find my entire
archives of newsletters.
GAO Hits
Lax Use of GSA Schedule for IT Services
Contractors providing Information Technology services to the federal
government can expect more competition for projects ordered through the
GSA and other IT schedules. The General Accounting Office (GAO) sampled
DoD procurements for IT services and found that only one of the sampled
contract offices was requiring competitive quotations. Some of the
other contracting offices simply compared hourly rates--even though
that approach fails to evaluate the number of hours of the mix of labor
categories that a particular contractor will use. Expect bottom-line
quotes for IT service projects after the General Services
Administration and the Office of Management and Budget disseminate
revised guidance to federal procuring authorities. The report is
GAO-01-125, Contract Management: Not Following Procedures Undermines
Best Pricing Under GSA's Schedule; November 2000. GAO has it available
for downloading.
What's
Out There?
At some point, my current consulting engagement will be completed, and
I will be looking for another long-term project (three months or
longer). Please let me know if you hear of anything that sounds like a
"Jim Kendrick" project. An updated resume is available for review, upon
your request.
