February 2, 2004

The White House transmitted the proposed federal budget for Fiscal Year 2005 (FY05) to Congress on February 2nd. The budget requests nearly $59.8 billion for information technology (IT). Outlays for the Department of Defense would move from $26.7 billion in FY 2004 to $27 billion in the year that begins this next October. Within Defense, the Air Force shows the greatest increase, while the Army's IT budget drops by about five percent.
Overall, civilian agencies would boost spending to $32 billion (a 1% increase), though the gains and losses vary widely from agency to agency. The P2C2 Group has prepared a summary of the changes as a PDF document. CLICK HERE TO OBTAIN A QUICK SUMMARY OF CHANGES.
