$59.8 BILLION FEDERAL SPENDING
FOR
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN FISCAL YEAR 2005

The White House
transmitted the proposed federal budget for Fiscal Year 2005 (FY05) to
Congress on February 2nd.
The budget requests nearly $59.8 billion for information technology
(IT). Outlays for the Department of Defense would move from $26.7
billion in FY 2004 to $27 billion in the year
that begins this next October. Within Defense,
the Air Force shows the greatest increase,
while the Army's IT budget drops by about
five percent.
Overall,
civilian agencies would boost spending to $32 billion (a 1% increase),
though the gains and losses vary widely from agency to agency. The P2C2
