PRESIDENT'S BUDGET REQUEST FOR FY 2006 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

The president's budget request for Fiscal Year 2006 included $65 billion for information technology, with $30 billion earmarked for the Department of Defense and $35 billion for civilian agencies. The Departments of Health and Human Services and Homeland Security are slated to receive over one-third of the IT dollars for civilian agencies.

The budget request, submitted to Congress, does not provide detail for IT outlays at Defense or the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Office of Management and Budget spreadsheet detailing IT expenditures stated that the details will be provided in April 2005. A summary of the budget from the OMB website follows.

I live less than two miles from the Music Center at Strathmore, Montgomery County's new cultural facility that is located near the Washington, DC beltway. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra will be performing there on an ongoing basis, in addition to many other performances in classical and popular formats. Elena and I are delighted and have tickets to March concert featuring Dvorak. You can find out more about Strathmore at http://www.strathmore.org/.
